BATIK


 
 DEFINITION  OF BATIK


Understanding Batik is a pictorial fabric and peroses the manufacture in particular that in the picture or put the motive into a cloth that is still empty, and then through the process khusu so have a characteristic on the cloth. Batik Indonesia, the entire engineering, technology, and development of related motives and cultures, by UNESCO has been designated as a Humanitarian Heritage for Oral and Nonbendawi Culture since October 2, 2009.

History of Batik Technique


The art of coloring the barrier techniques using the night is one of the motifs of ancient art. Discovered in Egypt shows that this technique has been known since the 4th century BC, with the discovery of a mummy wrapping cloth that is also coated with night to form a pattern. In Asia, similar batik techniques were also applied in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) as well as in India and Japan during the Nara Period (645-794).



Although the word "batik" comes from the Java language, Batik's birth in Java itself is not listed. G.P. Rouffaer discovers batik techniques likely to be introduced from India or Sri Lanka in the 6th or 7th century.



On the other hand, J.L.A. Brandes (Dutch archaeologist) and FA Sutjipto (Indonesian historian) believe that batik tradition is originally from regions such as Toraja, Flores, Halmahera, and Papua.



It should be noted that the area is not an area influenced by the Hinduism, but in it has an ancient tradition in making batik.



G.P. Rouffaer also reported that gringsing patterns have been known since the XII century in Kediri, East Java. He concludes that this pattern can only be formed by using canting tools, so he finds canting found in Java at the time about it.

Due to the industrialization and globalization, which has given the idea and demonstrated this automation technique, And in the end new batik model emerged, known as batik and batik print, traditional batik model which is produced using handwriting technique using canting and night called batik. Now batik has grown in some places outside Java, even abroad. In Indonesia, batik has also been developed in Aceh with Aceh batik, Riau Cual Batik, Batik Papua, Kalimantan Sasirangan batik and Minahasa batik.

Culture Batik



Srikandi R.A. Kartini and her husband wore batik skirts. Parang motif used Kartini is a pattern for the nobles.



Batik is a craft that has high artistic value and has become part of Indonesian culture (especially Java) has been a long time. Women in Java in the past made batik for a skill as a source of livelihood, so in the past this work was exclusively women's work until the discovery of "Batik Cap" which enabled men to enter into this field.



There are some exceptions to this phenomenon, namely coastal batik that has a masculine line as can be seen in the "Mega Overcast" style, where in some coastal areas batik work is common for men.



Tradition Batik was originally a hereditary tradition, so that sometimes batik motifs are known to come from certain families. Some batik can indicate a person's status. Even today, some traditional batik motifs are only used by the royal family of Yogyakarta and Surakarta.
